May. 26th, 2011 01:06 pmI have been inspired by
nathaniel_hp's posts of FOs. (Finished Objects, for the non-knitter.)
I haven't dyed yarn in a LONG time, but I know that I have some blank, undyed stuff at home and probaby some dyes too... I want to make myself a variegated Slytherin colourway that will stripe up when I knit it.
And then I would make elbow-high fingerless gloves with it. Drool.
I think I need to get on this. As soon as the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo is over.

Apr. 28th, 2011 08:25 amAnother morning where I have to reload several times to see any pages/journals on LJ... where it fights me on making any comments... where my inbox doesn't want to load... quelle surprise.
I've decided I need to come up with a BRILLIANT activity for the Fiery Ice landcomm, which all of my friends who like ASOIAF should join. I think I have an idea, too, so I'll give it a day or maybe two and then post it. Participation there is pretty good so far, and I finally got Lannisters!

Apr. 27th, 2011 09:36 amSeriously? Just as I finally get my first break of the morning (I work the front reception desk, so I can only take my breaks, bathroom included, at the specific times when reception is closed) I get an email telling me all the water in the building is off for the next hour.
I HAVE TO PEE.
I'm literally going to have to go down the street to a fast food place and buy something just so I can go to the bathroom, otherwise I have to wait until noon.
As if today didn't suck enough.

Dear friends who love ASOIAF,
YOU MUST JOIN FIERY ICE.
Three of us who are huge landcomm fans, and huge ASOIAF fans, are starting up a landcomm on DreamWidth, where we will be able to play even when LJ's servers are all down again.
You may fight for [Unknown site tag], [Unknown site tag] or [Unknown site tag].
Your dear Pixie is modding (*gasp* would you believe it) House Lannister.
HEAR ME ROAR.

So if you're on LJ, pop over to DreamWidth and join
fiery_ice. If you're not a DW member and want to be, let me know, as invite codes can most certainly be procured!!! If you're already on DW, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR DUDES.

Headset enabled!
Apr. 19th, 2011 07:15 pmOkay! Even though I KNOW I own two expensive gaming headsets, and I KNOW I packed them in some weird random place when we moved last year, I CAN NOT FIND THEM. I have torn the house apart.
So today I stopped off at The Source and picked up a cheap one-ear headset mic thinger so that I at least have SOME talk capabilities...
And then realized that I don't have anyone added on my Skype.
Sooooo... I'm mspixieriot (are you shocked?) if you are looking for me. :P

Apr. 19th, 2011 11:22 amNone of the layout codes I've tried to work to customize my DW journal have worked. I'm getting really discouraged. Most of the communities that have them haven't been updated in a REALLY long time. I guess it's time for me to play around with an LJ code, but I was really hoping not to need that much effort.

Apr. 8th, 2011 02:09 pmLIVEJOURNAL, YOU ARE KILLING ME.
I can't believe it's down again. Hello dreamwidth, you look more and more attractive every day!
<3 <3 <3
Anyone have any tips for me on finding/making cool dreamwidth layouts? The codes I usually use for LJ don't seem to apply here, exactly.
I guess I need to get around to uploading some userpics too! And adding some friends, because I know I have LJ friends lurking here too.

Feb. 22nd, 2011 03:25 pm17 Criminal Minds icons

These were made for a challenge at
crimeland. I dashed off 45 icons for it, admittedly not my best work, but speed counted. Here are the ones that didn't suck!
( All the icons are here. )
Comments and credit are love.

That music meme...
Feb. 9th, 2011 11:22 am1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List (and upload) 5 songs you love that begin with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.
burningxhope gave me G, but I'm going to ask for more letters from more people later so that I can do more of these. :P
So, what are today's songs? G was a hard letter but I came up with some songs that I love love LOVE!
Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On) - Robert Plant and Allison Krauss
A BRILLIANT cover tune (the original is by the Everly Brothers) from Raising Sand, the collaboration that Plant and Krauss released a few years ago. One of my favourite songs because a) they both sing the whole thing, since it's a dual vocal line, and b) you get all sorts of awesome Zeppelin-esque Robert Plant vocalizations. It's way happier than the "careful, I'm going to break up with you!" song that it actually is.
Listen to Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)
Gigantic - Pixies
Lyrically simple, something about the line "walk her every day, into a shady place" always feels good when I hear it. How can a song about "a big, big love" not please you? Anyhow, most will already know this song, I think, so I don't have to touch on it too much.
Listen to Gigantic
Gone! - The Cure
Currently working on a re-arrangement of this for my own album, and Tom and I have both had some great ideas for it for sure. "If you do that, you'll be missing the world - it doesn't stop turning, whatever you've heard." It also has the amazing added bonus of reminding me of an absolutely remarkable girl who introduced me to the Cure, and I smile (however wistfully) every time anything reminds me of her, which is quite often.
Listen to Gone!
Gun Street Girl - Tom Waits
Twangy, earlyearlyearly Tom Waits, which really goes to prove that he was just ON right off the mark at the beginning of his career. "He fell in love with a gun street girl, and now he's danced in a Birmingham jail" is such a quintessential Tom Waits line, and clang-splang kitchen percussion feel of the whole song is such a cobbled together "fuck, I really want to make music RIGHT NOW" feel that I can't help but love it.
Listen to Gun Street Girl
Good Times, Bad Times - Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin makes me think of Tom, especially now that this is my ringtone when he phones me. It's Zeppelin. I don't need a reason to post it on an AWESOME SONG list. So there.
Listen to Good Times, Bad Times
BONUS SONG, because everyone's been doing it and this one is an odd-song-out because it's both a song AND an album:
Graceland - Paul Simon
I FREAKING LOVE PAUL SIMON and this is one of the greatest albums EVER, right from the very first line of the first song: "The Mississippi Delta was shining like a National guitar." National, for anyone who doesn't know, makes resophonic guitars which are usually metal bodies, so they're REALLY REALLY SHINY, so it must have been a brilliantly sunny, gorgeous day when this tune was written. To me it's a song of freedom, of emancipation, of GET UP AND MOVE YOUR BUTT AND YOU'LL FEEL REALLY GOOD. Thanks, Paul, for writing a song that makes me feel so awesome.
